A sell of FLYBRAIN goes in through 42 olfactory neurons, 3,013 neurons integrate, and a mouth comes out. Every number on this panel is read out of the simulation running in this tab.
No wallet, no keyboard, no AI. Every sell of FLYBRAIN raises the smell of its corpse on the plate. The larva samples that smell on its left and its right, the way a real one does. It crawls on a rhythm the brain does not contain, steers by the difference in firing between its two halves, and its descending neurons set the pace. It eats only when it is on the corpse and its feeding neurons fire. Click the big larva to touch it. Press LISTEN to hear the spikes.
The first complete brain ever mapped was not a fly. It was a maggot. Winding et al., Science, March 2023: every neuron and every synapse of a first-instar Drosophila larva, 3,016 neurons, 548,000 synapses, traced from electron microscope images at Cambridge, Janelia and Johns Hopkins. The adult fly brain the flybrain runs on came three years later. This is the original.
We load the public release of that paper: 3,013 brain neurons and 111,243 connections, each weighted by the number of synapses counted in the microscope. The neurons run as leaky integrate-and-fire units: rest −52 mV, threshold −45 mV, 20 ms tau, 1 ms step, in JavaScript, in your tab, on no GPU. The wiring is never trained. Only the mushroom body synapses change, and only downward, under dopamine, which is the rule a larva actually uses. Everyone is buying the brain. Nobody is buying the larva.
A swap on FLYBRAIN's pool is read off Robinhood Chain and fed into the sensory neurons the paper labels for that sense. All 3,013 integrate. What comes out is the descending neurons a larva actually feeds and crawls with.
A fixed public map. No AI decides anything. Given the same brain state and the same trades, the same reaction comes out.
| Market event | Sense | Neurons | What the larva does |
|---|---|---|---|
| FLYBRAIN sell | smell + taste | ORN 42, AN 175 | Rot. It feeds. Counted as a meal when dSEZ fires. |
| FLYBRAIN buy | light | Rh5 + Rh6, 29 | The fly is alive and shining. It turns away. |
| FLYBRAIN big sell | smell + dopamine | ORN 42, MBIN 15 | A feast. The mushroom body learns that smell. |
| MAGGOTS buy | taste + dopamine | AN 175, MBIN 15 | Sugar. Reward. |
| MAGGOTS sell | touch | MN + vtd, 179 | Something moved. It hunches. |
| MAGGOTS big sell | touch + punishment | MN + vtd, MBIN 13 | It rolls. The mushroom body learns that too. |
| You click it | touch | MN + vtd, 179 | It flinches. |
MAGGOTS rows switch on at launch. Until then the larva lives on FLYBRAIN alone.
Every complete brain ever mapped, by year. The maggot is the first one with more than a few hundred neurons. The fly came three years later and needs a GPU. Fit the line and read off when they get to you.
The maggot is the seed round. The fly is the Series A. Every fly was a maggot. Every unicorn was a seed.
Not a roadmap of promises. A sequence, with everything before the amber line already done and checkable in this page's source.
The flybrain runs one brain on one GPU in one place. The brood runs one brain per open tab, on hardware nobody pays for. This plate shows everyone here right now. Close the tab and yours pupates.
Connecting to the plate. Every maggot shown is a real open tab.
Creator fees go into one public wallet, the gut. Every day the gut buys FLYBRAIN, in slices timed by the larva's own feeding neurons, and sends it to every MAGGOTS holder. Nothing to claim. FLYBRAIN appears in your wallet. Every Sunday it does the reverse: MAGGOTS, laid on every FLYBRAIN holder.
